Sweetwater Texas – Lake Sweetwater Campground – A Hidden Gem

After a very long drive yesterday we ended up in Sweetwater Texas at the cutest municipal park quite by accident. I left College Station headed for the general Abilene, Texas area. We didn’t have a cell signal for most of the day as our drive was remote. Once we got to Abilene we stopped at a rest area to investigate our options for the night. I discovered we were within 20 miles of Lake Sweetwater Municipal Park in Sweetwater Texas.

Lake Sweetwater Park – Sweetwater Texas

The park is about four miles off I20 and the cost is only $15 a night for water and electric hookups. That’s a fantastic price. The sites are huge and it’s really pretty there. There is a lake nearby but I didn’t see it. There is also a golf course very close by.

I have no idea what this old building is but it was fun to check out. Murphy refused to cross the aluminum bridge so he took the scenic route through the ditch and up the steep hill.

There are thirty-two sites but I think only six were taken. I was able to let Murphy run off-leash but was warned there are a lot of porcupines in the area and to keep an eye on him.

We had a beautiful sunset and a very comfortable evening.

The only negative I found to this park is the goat heads which are a seedpod from a weed that covers the ground in some areas.

Those nasty things are very hard and poke right into your shoe or paw. Poor Murphy had a hard time with those.
